Eloquently and concisely explained — regardless of any individual political preferences, the current situation is a mess readily exploited by those with the power and financial resources, leaving everyone else largely at their mercy unless we do something about it.
And the media should be the ones holding them to account, but it’s been left to a few notable individuals to try and shine a light on what’s happening — to only see it dismissed by fake accounts and confirmation bias…
The biggest challenges seem to be either redefining politics or creating new business models that are accepted at scale — obviously there are lots of new ways to make or diversify revenue working for specific interest groups, but I wonder if we’ll ever accept that definition of success rather than constantly looking for ‘the new Facebook’, or whether large companies will ever actually embrace the effort to support a more diverse number of communities and networks — most new media/business models I’ve worked with have always had vocal support, but when it comes to shifting advertising budgets, it’s defaulted back to the biggest number of eyeballs at the lowest cost…
